Minooka Preschool
The Minooka Preschool program has 7 preschool
classrooms with a maximum of 20 students per each half day section. There are fourteen sections per
day; five AM sessions, and five PM sessions. To enter the program students
are screened through the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative. There are
monthly screenings and upcoming dates will be posted on the
Minooka Primary Center weekly newsletters, and are listed above. There will be NO busing available for this preschool program due to the fact that it is a state funded program and completely free to families that qualify. Once students are screened the
results can be used to help determine what placement is best for the student.
Please register at grundyspecialed.org for an upcoming screening date.
Early Childhood/Developmental Kindergarten
EC/DK (as often referred to) educates children aged 3 to 5 with various Individual Education Plan (IEP) needs. Teachers teach the skills needed for success later in kindergarten or 1st grade, depending on how many school years the students remain in
the program. The A.M. classes are predominantly young 3's and 4's, the P.M.
classes are mostly older 4's and 5's. Each teacher has at least one fantastic
assistant that reemphasize teaching lessons, reinforce directions, and helping
to build independent workers. The teachers work not only with our students, but
their families and each other to promote an exciting learning environment for
all of the students! Busing is available for EC/DK students. To enter the program students are screened through the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative.
Please register at grundyspecialed.org for an upcoming screening date.
STARS
We also have the STARS program, 3 wonderful classrooms for children on the autism spectrum. Each child is given a
specialized program to follow, designed to meet their individual needs. Within
the classroom, the children follow an individual schedule and some students also
use PECS for communication. Methods are used within individual work stations to
learn and maintain developmentally appropriate skills. The STARS classrooms at Minooka Primary Center serve
children within the ages of 3-5 years old who reside in Grundy County, we have one STARS classroom for Early Childhood students. This is a
full day program. Each day, children engage in social play activities, circle
time routines, sensory breaks, work stations, and a table time activity.
